My Photography

I have been involved with photography for many years, from my first attempt with a Kodak Brownie 127 way back in 1960 when my family were living in Singapore, up to today when I am using a Digital Single Lens Reflex (DSLR) camera. My real involvement in photography came when I was serving with the Royal Air Force in the former West Germany in 1972 where I had access to a well equipped Camera Club that had both darkroom and studio facilities. I do have access to a conventional darkroom, although I have not used this for some time, preferring to use the convenience of a digital darkroom on my PC, and I do own a set of versatile studio flash units complete with a background system that I can set up in a suitable space for photographing my favorite subject, people.

For many years I have used a variety of 35mm SLR cameras ranging from the Russian Zenith E through to Canon EOS equipment, supplemented by a couple of roll film cameras. In the late 1990s I found it increasingly difficult to focus the older style of camera, so I traded them in for auto focus cameras migrating to digital cameras when they started to produce some really good hobbyist cameras about 2001. I have stuck with Canon cameras in the digital age, although I have now acquired a couple of Sigma lenses to supplement the original lenses I was using.

I am mainly interested in taking portraits and artistic nude images, but I have been known to do the odd landscape including environmental images of rural towns and villages. There was a time when I took many photos of trains and aircraft, but I find that I do not photograph these subjects much these days.
